Our Story

Our Story

Located inside one of Denver's oldest synagogues and originally built in the 1950s, our preschool has been a trusted cornerstone of early education since the late 1970s. Over the decades, we have evolved into a tight-knit yet diverse community. Our families include Modern Orthodox households, highly educated professionals (like neurologists and psychologists), and local refugees, all coming together to create a vibrant, culturally rich environment where educational quality is unmatched.

Children learn best when they use their hands, play, and engage with open-ended materials. Following Colorado's early learning guidelines while giving our teachers full creative freedom, we foster natural curiosity and problem-solving without relying on rigid worksheets.

The heart of our preschool is rooted in Jewish values. Guided by the Jewish calendar, our experiential learning and daily routines naturally weave in traditions, celebrations, and a strong culture of kindness and respect.

We bridge the gap between home and school so you never miss a moment. Using our parent engagement app (Remeni) for daily sheets, photos, and regular newsletters, we keep communication open and transparent.

Jewish concepts and values are deeply embedded into everyday learning in a meaningful and developmentally appropriate way. Our educational program emphasizes our love and respect for Judaism and Jewish values. Your child will use art, song, movement, food, storytelling, and emergent literacy to help explore the universal themes found in Jewish culture and Judaism.

Bringing Values to Life Through Play

We weave Jewish values directly into our emergent, play-based curriculum. For example, through the concept of Bal Tashchit (the value of not wasting or unnecessarily destroying), children engage across multiple areas

In Practice

We incorporate classroom recycling bins alongside trash cans, discuss using both sides of paper, keep a bin for paper scraps, and explore composting methods and special guests.

Early Science & Math

Students study the recycling process from start to finish and even make paper right in the classroom.

Children practice self-regulation, learn about environmental care, and build a sense of personal responsibility.

Literacy & Art

Children create signs for different classroom bins, learn technical vocabulary for recycling and composting stages, and use recycled materials to craft unique art projects.

We believe parents play a critical role in a child’s learning experience. A strong teacher-parent partnership allows for a better understanding of a child’s specific needs both inside the classroom and at home, and provides you, as parents, greater insight into the classroom experience.

We want every family, regardless of religious affiliation, to feel welcome, safe, and included in our community. At BMH-BJ Preschool, you will have many volunteer opportunities to support and participate in the school through classroom activities, as room parents, through our parent ambassador program, Shabbat parties, and other holiday celebrations.

Partnering with the Community

To enhance our Jewish curriculum and our celebration of Jewish culture and heritage, we take advantage of many collaborative opportunities with other Jewish organizations. Through these partnerships, we are able to bring many unique hands-on experiences into the classroom, including:

Chabad’s shofar, grogger, oil press, and matzoh factories.

Farm fun with Sprout City Farms at the Denver Green School.

Spots with Coach Pete on Mondays, music classes on Tuesdays, visits with our teen emissary from Israel on Wednesdays. And Shabbat party with our clergy on Fridays.

We also look for opportunities to partner with secular community organizations—such as the Denver Green School, the Denver Botanic Gardens, and the Denver Zoo—to enhance our general curriculum and learning experience.

Furthermore, we operate in conjunction with the synagogue, working closely with the clergy, staff, and community. The clergy supports our staff and families, offering opportunities for learning, celebrating holidays, as well as family and personal milestones.
